The Xperia ion is Sony’s first LTE Android device running Android v2.3(gingerbread). This device will launch exclusively in the U.S. on the AT&T network in the 2nd quarter of 2012. Boasting a resolution of 1280×720 this should bring a stunning HD experience on a 4.6″ display. The specs (listed below) are beastly! Imagine the looks on your friends faces when you tell them, “oh its a 12mp camera.”
Key Features for Xperia ion:
· 4.6-inch HD Reality display with Mobile BRAVIA® Engine with HD resolution screen (1280 x 720), as well as rear (1080p) and front (720p) cameras for HD recording.
· 1.5GHz dual-core processor for fast browsing and content download, which can be stored on the internal 16GB flash storage.
· 12MP rear camera with Sony Exmor R™ for mobile with fast-capture to go from standby to first shot in less than two seconds.
· HD sharing through DLNA, HDMI and BRAVIA Sync to quickly and easily stream content on other screens.
Remember the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10? You know, the handset we’ve been waiting for what seems like forever on? After months of sitting around wondering if and when it will come to the United States, we’re hearing some more precise rumblings on it. According to a Boy Genius Report source, the sleek beauty from Sony Ericsson is headed for AT&T with an ETA of around April-May. Further, the handset is said to be landing with the $199 price tag. Naturally that requires a 2-year agreement. Not a terrible price by any stretch considering we’ve heard it’s to fetch nearly $900 at full cost.
Here’s the rub. By the time this phone arrives, it’s likely to get lost in the shuffle with a handful of other handsets. A whole new batch of Android phones have been unveiled this week and many of them feature more under the hood. We can’t even begin to imagine how long it might be before we see the Xperia X10 upgraded from Android 1.6 to 2.1 or higher. Here’s hoping they don’t (continue to) drag their feet.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 has yet to be announced for release here in the US, but that won’t stop us from drooling over it. One of the cooler sounding features, face-recognition and tagging, has been demonstrated for all to see. In theory, the Xperia X10 can take your photos and compare them other pictures found on the handset. If it recognizes the subject as someone you’ve already tagged, the handset automatically tags the new one. From there, you can view all the images in groups under the Mediascape gallery.
Naturally, we’re expecting this to have little snags and imperfections. However, should this work as it’s demonstrated below, this could cut down on a lot of busy work.

NTT DOCOMO, the Japanese telecommunications giant, announced today their launch of the Docomo Smartphone Xperia™, manufactured by Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications. This is the handset known as the Xperia™ X10 in markets outside Japan. The astonishing Android handset will be available on the Japanese market starting April and offering two variants “Sensuous Black” and “Luster White”.
The spec sheet provided on the press release outlines the same specs as the western version of the Xperia, a 4.0 inches WVGA (854 x 480) screen, 8.1 megapixel shooter, 1 GB of ROM, 384 MB of RAM, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, HSUPA/HSDPA data communications and 801.11b/g wireless access.
Unfortunately it also confirms that this Japanese version of the handset will be launching with Android 1.6, which is disappointing given the amazing hardware Sony Ericsson has put together for this device and the fact that by the time it launches half the Android world will be rocking version 2.1.
You can continue reading the press release or take a peek directly at the spec sheet (PDF ).
Today the entire world’s eyes were fixed upon all of the live blogs, video streams, and articles pouring out about two of Google’s new latest releases. The Nexus One Android Phone and the Google Web Store. While you might suspect Canadians were sulking about its lack of availability in Canada, Wrong! We were celebrating a victory of our own; the confirmed release of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.
The phone will be running Android 1.6 and while that may have Canadians wondering how long it is until we get Android 2.1, you can be happy to know it’s got some new tricks for an old dog. Listed below are the technical specifications for the phone(via AndroidInCanada.com).
Memory: 8GB microSD card included, with 1GB of internal memory
CPU: 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250
Camera: 8.1MP with 16x digital zoom, auto-focus, touch focus, face recognition, and geo-tagging
What really stands out with the X10 is the inclusion of a similar, if not the same, 1GHz processor included in the Nexus One. This processor will show Canada some of the fastest speeds it has ever seen from Android and hopefully make a dent in providing Android awareness to the Canadian market. Sony has taken Android and improved upon it by adding new features such as Sony Ericsson Mediascape and Timescape™ that add to make a for a completely new way to experience Android. Videos of these two new features can be found below. The release of the X10 is expected for the second quarter of this year.
The question is… will you wait for your Dreams and Magics to be updated to 1.6, or will you drop it like an old girlfriend for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10?

According to a rumor started at Gizmodo and detailed by semcblog.com Sony Ericsson has two android phones in the works. They are part of the Cyber-shot family and are named CS5 and CS8, most likely the names referring to the megapixels of the camera.
The fact that Sony Ericsson works on Android phone wasn’t exactly a surprise, since the manufacturer is part of the Open Headset Alliance. Also proof that this is more than just a rumor is the fact that there are two wap profiles on SE’s website named CS5R101 and CS8R101.
